As we prepare for the Fall semester, the eSAIL team invites you to our Fall Instructional Symposium—a structured day of focused workshops dedicated to high-impact engagement strategies. Throughout the event, our instructional design team will lead targeted sessions on boosting student interaction with tools like YuJa, implementing technical accessibility standards across your course materials, and optimizing your Canvas architecture before launch day. Join us for this comprehensive day of programming to build a highly engaging learning experience.

  • 09:00 AM – 10:00 AM | Designing Instruction that Promotes Student Engagement
    Learn the evidence-based principles of how students interact with media. We will cover how to manage cognitive load, the science behind micro-lectures, and how to structure your video narrative to effortlessly boost student retention and active participation.
  • 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM | Promoting Engagement with Interactive Quizzes in YuJa: A Hands-On Workshop
    Transform passive viewing into active learning. In this hands-on session, you will learn how to embed interactive video quizzes directly into your lecture recordings to check for understanding, maintain student attention, and seamlessly integrate with your course gradebook.
  • 11:30 AM – 12:15 PM | Faculty Symposium on Student Engagement (With Lunch)
    Join fellow Engineering faculty for lunch while sharing practical approaches for helping students be more engaged in learning.
  • 12:15 PM – 12:30 PM | Reflections & Next Steps
    We will wrap up by tying together the top takeaways from today’s lunch session and our previous workshops. Then, we want to hear from you: what challenges should eSAIL tackle next to best support your teaching?
  • 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM | Post-Symposium Open Clinic
    Keep the symposium’s momentum going! Bring your laptop to our distraction-free lab and apply new strategies directly to your course, with eSAIL staff on hand to assist.
